 MYTH #1 
“You Can Build Muscle Without Changing Your Diet”

 THE TRUTH:  I wish it was that simple! Actually I don’t, because it means only a few people have what it takes to build an impressive physique and stand-out from the crowd.

To build muscle you must change your diet, and it’s not as simple as eating more protein – you must ensure you eat a balance of the right protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats, and that you’re eating enough.

Once your diet is nailed down (which I’ll explain shortly) then it’s just a simple case of lifting the right way and doing the right exercises. The only people who can build muscle without changing their diet are steroid users. Steroid L-USERS I call them.


 MYTH #2 
"You Can Build Muscle And
Lose Fat at the Same Time”

 THE TRUTH:  If I had a nickel for every time I heard some knuckle-head in the gym or on a forum claimed this I would be a millionaire – well, almost. The idea that you can build muscle AND lose fat at the same time goes against the laws of the universe, and I am not joking…

To build muscle you need to consume more energy (that’s calories) than your body requires each day so that it has SPARE energy to help you repair and build new muscle. To lose fat it’s the other way around – therefore it’s IMPOSSIBLE to achieve both goals at the same time, and that’s one of the fundamental premises of my workout program which I’ll get in to shortly.


 MYTH #3 
“You Must Take Steroids To
Get Any Real Results”

 THE TRUTH:  Anyone who tells you that you need steroids to build muscle is either ignorant or not very dedicated and prefers to cheat in all areas of life – exactly the type of person who would need steroids to build muscle.

You don’t want to mix with these guys – they’re mostly angry and have serious personality issues. You can’t even get through to them that steroids destroy your body by enlarging vital organs such as your heart and kidneys. Show them the actual studies and they will turn red in the face and start huffing and puffing. Don’t believe this crap for one second.

They could get just as big by sticking to a well thought out diet and lifting regime, and when you do bodybuilding naturally, you never shrink like steroid users do when they’re off the juice. YOU STAY BIG. They don’t.


 MYTH #4 
“You Can Turn Muscle In To Fat”

 THE TRUTH:  Muscle and fat are 2 entirely seperate biological entities - there's no such thing as turning fat in to muscle, or vice versa. You can either build muscle, or lose fat.

Fat is a liquid and muscle is meat. You can't turn fat to muscle no more than you can turn wallpaper paste in to t-bone steak. It's impossible!

What you can do is either:

  • Reduce the ammount of fat that's inside your body by eating less calories than your body needs each day

    or..

  • Increase the size of your muscles by lifting weights and eating slightly more calories than your body needs each day

You can only achieve 1 of these goals at any one time, meaning for a period of time you can reduce your body fat, and then you can spend another period of time increasing the size of your muscles.

You cannot do both at the same time, as I explained in Myth #2.

This is a fundemental basic truth of bodybuilding. It's called cutting and bulking, yet still most people who don't know much about bodybuilding don't understand that fat and muscle are entirely seperate from each other.

You can now count yourself in the minority of people who know the truth.

 MYTH #5 
“Building Muscle Stunts Your
Growth If You're Too Young"

 THE TRUTH:  I don't know where this myth originated but never have I witnessed or heard of a case where bodybuilding stunted a kids growth.

It's just parents being over-protective. It's what they do. Bless them.

In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics states that strength training programs do not seem to adverseley effect growth nor have any long term effects on cardiovascular health, and the School of Physical Education and Athletics in McMaster University in Canada carried out a study on actual boys between ages 9 to 11 years old and found nothing untoward.

If you're young, there's nothing to worry about. Just another one of those widely circulated and believed myths by those that don't know better.


 MYTH #6 
“Once You're Old It's Impossible
To Build Significant Muscle Mass"

 THE TRUTH:  Nonsense! According to studies a man's testosterone levels don't really start to drop until they hit 50 years old - and even then they only drop by 1 percentage point per year, meaning a man in his 70's still has half the testosterone levels he had as a younger man and is still able to build muscle. But let's face it, at 70 who wants to look like Rambo anyway?

If you're in your 40's or 50's there's nothing stopping you from building muscle at all. I encourage it at that age. Your testosterone levels are still going strong and to be in shape at that age is something to be proud of.

Heck, you can put most young guys out there to shame. Well, the ones who don't lift weight, that is!


 MYTH #7 
“The More Time You Spend In The
Gym The More Muscle You Build"

 THE TRUTH:  Your muscles only grow when you're resting. That means you should get in the gym (or your garage), lift the weights hard for nomore than 60 minutes, 3 times per week, and for the rest of the time you should be resting. That's right. Sitting on your butt allowing your muscles to first recover from your workouts, and then re-build new muscle tissue and fibres.

People who spend all day in the gym are overtraining and won't get any results because they never allow their muscles time to repair and grow.

You only need to spend 3 hours per week actually lifting weights. That is what my program is built upon and that is the gods honest truth of the matter. Only steroid users with no life can hit the gym every day anyway.
